While working as an author I do a lot of research and I’m a technologist. I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and while conducting research and working on a Master’s degree in Information Management Technology I realized that many students have had trouble or difficulty connecting the dot’s from abstract concepts taught in STEM, Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. I knew I’ve had a lot of experience in every one of these areas and for me solving problems and understanding abstract concepts came naturally.
As a Senior NCO in the Army I always received excellent evaluation ratings and was promoted ahead of my peers to that of Senior NCO in under nine years, which is very impressive. That of Sergeant First Class, translated into civilian terms, is Organizational Senior Supervisor. I worked on the Patriot Missile System, as a Technician, being recognized consistently by high ranking Officers of the excellent manner in which I lead and maintained the Patriot System and my maintenance crew. The Patriot Missile System is one of the most sophisticated missile weapon systems we have in the U.S. Military and I was an Instructor. My advice, on the Patriot System, was also sought after by Colonels, Generals, and even Politicians on various occasions. This meant I developed and had the technical expertise and leadership coupled together, perfect for writing a book such as “A Tech Nerd’s Guide”. However, I wanted to contribute my knowledge and experience toward the next generation of STEM leaders. I also discovered that our next generation of young STEM leaders were having difficulty keeping interest in what they wanted to do and I remember being young and trying to figure out how everything fit in together. This book takes the mystery and guess work out of each of the three areas in the title….LEADERSHIP, SELF-WORTH, AND STEM in how students are to become some of our nations best scientists, engineers, educators, and leaders in STEM related professions.
