Take a look at the graph above. This information was pulled from the Washington Post’s website, in which I give credit. However, they in turn pulled their research from the Pew Research Center. Either they are trying to get viewers to believe they are unbiased and fair or they are bragging that they are biased so that more Liberal biased news watchers will pay more attention to them.

This morning most of the more well known News channels broadcasted President Trumps tweet about how Google search is biased. He stated “Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal? 96% of results on “Trump News” are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous. Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!”

Search engines, not just Google, are programmed to utilize certain functions with the use of special characters such as the double quote special character “”. The double quote allows a person, searching for something specific, to zero in on what they want to find or research. This is probably what President Trump was doing. He had a specific purpose and wanted to show everybody something.

As of this writing it is just before Noon and from my perspective, at a glance, it looks like President Trump is attacking Google. This is when I type in, exactly, “Trump News“. That is under the selection of the sub search category of “All”. When I click on the sub search category of “News“, I get phrases such as President Trump says Google search is RIGGED, phrases about Michael Cohen, and President Trump terminates NAFTA. Those are just the first three. A few hours earlier and the search results were slightly different. As the day goes on, of course, there will be more statements and discussion. This is just a natural cause and effect because President Trump is the President of the U.S. and what he says is important either way we look at it.

If I were to type in the search in Google with the following words, exactly as typed in the link I would get something slightly different and would tell me a different story. Type in reporter latest “Donald Trump News” under the sub search category of “All” and it looks to me like the first five results say, President Trump hates CNN, reporters were “banned”, “Fox news reporter defends CNN”, “trump rally, uneasy mix of hate”, and “Jim Acosta heckled and booed”. Under the sub search category of “News” there are about two positive news headlines about what President Trump is doing.

Everybody knows President Trump uses the term “Fake News” but also not everybody uses the term reporters use such as “Trump News”. What I’ve seen in the search results is slightly different. On live news they might use “Trump News” but I found I got more specific search results when I used the term “Donald Trump News”. To me this shows a sort of conflict between President Trump and the various News organizations. Not all reporters use this term. But they could be using those two phrases the same way people use buzzwords.

Another concept is that Google could be exactly what they say. They say “search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.” “We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment,”. Think about this. Since the majority of the more well known News and media stations are more Liberal biased, as shown in the graph above, don’t you think they know how to form their statements so that they show up at the forefront of google searches? If they did not use certain words or phrases on a consistent basis would the search results be the same? Even though Googles trade secrets are protected have you ever thought that companies like CNN could have figured out what works and what doesn’t over the course of months or years to, externally, manipulate what comes up in searches? Googles software operates on an enterprise scale and utilizes the business functions associated with “Big Data”. The information that their web page spider programs search for is fed into their databases and analytical programs as the news is and has been reported. Then that information is, like I said, analyzed then categorized based on algorithms. When a person puts in certain words a certain way, they come up with results based on HOW they search. But this can be manipulated based on how the information is put out there as well. There are less Right, Conservative, or Republican biased News channels than there are Left.

Another Pew research study from June 28th of this year called “Public Attitudes Toward Technology Companies” explains that it is not just Conservatives that feel or think that the Mass Media is biased. According to a digital media and trends survey by Deloitte, the majority of big tech companies get their revenue from media. 2.1 billion dollars are spent monthly by people in the United States for digital media content. The survey explains and shows hunger for streaming content continues to grow. Since Media is a generalized term for various types of digital content, given the amount of them out there, it is almost staggering to consider how much data and content we take in. This is not to mention how much data passes through the various bandwidth channels. Big tech companies know that MEDIA is where the revenue is. They base their hardware technology on this and their computer programs on it. However, anything that threatens a decline in their revenue influx and performance, they might go after the competition. Google could very well be in the middle, meaning they could be totally unbiased in the political arena. This could cause some opposition from companies such as Apple, Viacom, BET, CNN, ABC, or Microsoft in addition to the hardware (i.e. smartphone manufacturers) manufacturers to begin the process of devising. I’m not saying they will but if they do watch the trends and how they interact with each other.

If big tech companies go in the direction of where the revenue is and media companies like CNN and ABC are purposefully using words and phrases consistently in order to manipulate what comes up in search engines, this could definitely be cause for concern. President Trump might not be an expert in this area but I do believe he has a lot of common sense. I believe him and the Republicans just want a level field. They might not be able to clear it and start over but they could create a level field. That is fair.
